Taking Control Over Your Own Happiness

All of us have one thing in common. We all want to be happy! I often hear these common statements from clients, colleagues, friends, and family:

  • I'll be happy when I find a new job.

  • I'll be happy when I move to a new city.

  • I'll be happy when I have money.

  • I'll be happy when I meet someone.

  • I'll be happy when vacation gets here.

  • I'll be happy when it's Friday.

The list goes on and on but I think you're starting to see my point. So, how do you get there? How do you find happiness? What do you have to do? The simple truth is, you already have it. It's here now! It's a gift you've been given every single day you wake up. All you have to do is follow these basic guidelines and happiness is yours:

  • Live a Life of Gratitude - Be grateful for the things you have. Stop comparing yourself to others. There is always something to be grateful for. The sun rises every morning. There's always love and beauty in the world. The perception that everyone has more than you is just an illusion. Who cares if your neighbor drives a nicer car or lives in a bigger house. Be grateful that you're you. You're like nobody else. You have your own unique gifts and talents.

  • Think Love - You can choose to be angry at the friend, relative, co-worker, or someone else that did you wrong, or you can choose love. Do you want to make yourself sick holding a grudge and focusing on ways to get back at someone? If your answer is yes, are you really any different than that person you're angry at? Focus on love! Think of ways to help someone. Share your gifts with them. Tell them about all the wonderful things in your life. Share your life experiences. Don't waste it on mindless gossip and plots to get revenge.

  • Forgive Yourself and Others - We've all made mistakes. Life is about learning. It isn't about judging. Unless you have a time machine, there's no way you're going back to right all the wrongs you and others have done. Forgive yourself and move on. Holding on to things causing undue stress and anxiety doesn't benefit or heal you. It was all just a life lesson. If you take it like that, you can move past it quickly and on to the next exciting chapter in your life.

  • Live for Today - One thing is for sure, we only have this moment. So why not make the most of it? Live for the moment! There is no promise of tomorrow, next week, next year, retirement, or any future. There is today, this moment, this second. Call someone and tell them you love them. Go outside and enjoy nature. It's here! It's now! As they say, seize the moment!

  • Let It Go - I talk about this in everything I do. Every self-help book, every article, every lecture, it all comes down to the same lesson. Let it go! Let go of stress, worry, guilt, anger, hurt, what if's, maybes, and anything that keeps you from moving forward. If it doesn't serve you today, then let it go!

  • Stress and Anxiety - Aside from anything else, the number one thing hypnosis can help you with is releasing stress and anxiety. Most clients don't even realize the amount of stress they're holding onto. It can cause both physical and mental illness. It can cause you to lose sleep and keep you from achieving your goals. It becomes a chronic condition. Hypnosis can show you how to let go of all that stress, worry, anxiety, guilt, and all the negative emotions you've been holding onto.

  • Relaxation - Many people have difficulty relaxing. You get caught up in the day to day and don't stop to take a break for yourself to just relax. We all need a few moments to recharge and just rest. You have to learn to calm your mind. Hypnosis can take you to a magical place through guided imagery so you once again know what it feels like to relax even if you haven't felt that way in a long time.

  • Finding Your Gifts and Talents - Once you take away some of the stress and anxiety and learn to relax, you can begin to focus on your true gifts and talents. What are the things that are most important to you? What are your gifts? What can you share with others to help them grow? I'm sure in your heart or in the back of your mind, there is that little something that you've always wanted to try or knew you were destined for.

Life is truly what you make of it. Forget what happened yesterday unless it serves your purpose. Move forward and be happy! It's here today!
